  3. I found it interesting that one soldier said, "Soldiering is 99% boredom and 1% terror." I also was surprised that soldiers gambled. Well, now that I think about it, I would've gambled too if it meant that I may get money to send home.

  4. Hello! After reading this blog,I learned soldiers whittled to pass the time. They also played dominoes, which was something I didn't know before.I also learned enlisted men carried
    everything on their backs!

    that soldies back then carried stuff on there back

    Haversacks were oflten used for carrying ther stuff like food and games

    Some things they played when they got boardsgames like domineos, poker, and chess!

  8. i learned that the union soilders had not so much good food and the confederat soilders had bearly any food to feed all the soilders and i learned that they only had half a tent to sleep in so it was ruff in the winter.

  9. I read about living camp. One of the facts I learned was that offiers lived in better homes than soliders because soliders hade to live in tents and sleep of mother nature.I also learend that the soilders carried 30 to 20 pounds of gear. Last I learned that the officers had nice fernuter in their houses.

  12. I learned that hard tack was the main meal that solders ate. If solders ate to much they wouldn't have enough food. Solders would sometimes have to eat during the war. QK

  13. I learned that the soldiers ate hardtack. Hardtack is like a little, hard cracker that does not taste good. I also learned that a soldier's life was very hard. The soldiers slept under poorly made tents and didn't have any matress or anything! Finally, I learned that soldiers wore habersacks. Habersacks were little pockets attached by a sash. They held the soldier's few possesions.

  14. I read Playing Games under Battling boredom.
    1) Sodiers playe dboard games such as checkers and draughts. Also chess, dominos and cards and other games of Chance. (No, Not Like LIFE!!!!!)

    2) The exchange of money were popular in both armies.

    3) Some would sendmoney home to help in the hard times shared by many.

  16. i was interested to know that officers were allowed more freedom and comforts than the soldiers. Junior officers were only allowed one trunk of belongings. Soldiers played many different games with their friends while eating hard tak, a civil war food.

  17. I learnedthat only one or two officers to a tent. Soldiers added other clothing and equiptment to their military issue. Music and singing was comond in a soldiers life.

  18. I learned that a soilder sleeps in camps with the same thing to eat evry day, while the confedericy had barly anything to eat!They played card games when they had time. Otherwise they fought in terrible wars.At first they fought to keep the conty together, then they fought over slavery later in in the war

  21. 1. I think it is cool how they whittled alot of creations with their pocket knives wwhen they were bored.

    2. It is so cool that they played games that we still play right now such as dominoes,chess, cards and many more!

    3. It is amazing how they played music for concerts, marching bands, and to wake people up to fight.

    2. The armies in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia usually campaigned during the warmer months and camped in the winter.
    3. Soldiers played board games including, checkers, droughts, chess, dominoes, and cards and other games of chance.
    4. The most usual game was poker for stakes.

  36. 1. people all over the parts of the country fought in the civil war. 2. some soldiers in the civil war read/sang/wrote letters to them to pass time at their camp. 3. some of the union soldiers got tired of eating the only food they had ,but the confederate soldiers had it worse. from pink pony!!!!!

    another thing i learned when i read about a soilder's life is that each juinor officer was
    allowed to only bring only one trunk of personal belongings, the last thing i learned when reading about a soilders life is that officers in the field were treated better than enlisted people.
