WW2 Family Ties

This is a C-47 like the one my grandpa flew in during WW2.

In April 1942, pilots started flying the "Hump," and continued missions until 1945, when the Burma Road was reopened. The dangerous 530-mile long passage over the Himalayan Mountains took its toll. Combat Cargo Groups were soon on the way. The newly introduced units' sole purpose in the theater was to be air-resupply, supplying ground units in a combat zone.

My paternal grandfather, Luke Kriner during WW2.

Staff Sergeant in Army Air Corps 1943.

My grandpa "flew the hump" during WW2.

This is him in Burma in 1945.

  2. Both of my grandfathers were in WW2. One of my grandfathers didn't fight he just helped because his health wasn't very good. My other grandfather(my dad's dad) actually fought. He was a national guard and he rode around on a motorcycle protecting people. I never got to meet my dad's dad because he died when my dad was. He had 4 heart attacks and he died on his fourth.

His wife Jannet Julian was at home with her four boys and one baby girl... The next day around four o'clock, their neighbors house was bombed... The day of Pearl Harbor the family got a letter saying that Richard was dead...

  13. It would be kind of scary to drive a plane the enemy could shoot you down at any time. You could crashon the ground. Sense the mountains are so high you could hit a mountain. WE COULD HAVE AN ENGINE FAILURE and explode, too. That's why I think it would be scary to pilot a plane.
