2010-11 WWI: Drafted!

This is my great-great grandpa's draft card from World War I. He was drafted when he was 26 years old and served from 1917-1918. He was a miller (a person who operates a mill, a machine to grind a cereal crop to make flour) and had no military experience.
**Think about what it means to be "drafted" into a war.

Reply to this entry by responding to this question:
How would you feel if you got a draft card?  Cite specific reasons why you feel this way.

Walter Kriner, my great, great grandpa.
Nice boots, huh?

My great grandpa's dad's farm in Dubois, Pennsylvania.
My great grandpa is the young man on the left leaning on the car.

My great grandpa's family.
Do you see the little boy on the left (behind the boy in the sailor suit)?
That is my grandpa, Luke Kriner.

  6. I would feel very scared if I got drafted because in war, you could die or get seriously injured. Also, if you become friends with someone, and they die or get injured, you would miss them.

  12. I would be very scared to get drafed into the war. I would be scared to leave my friends and family, and would be afraid that I would never see them again. I would be afraid I would die.I would be terrified to be drafted in. I feel so bad about how your great grandfather would feel about that.

  13. I think if I got a draft card I would be..... Well wait drafted first means to be made for it like was born to help our country. If I got a draft card I would feel ful of proudness and sad.I would feel sad because when you fight for your country it's really sad to leave your family and friends. I would feel proud because I would actually be fighting for my country and feel like I have the power to do anything. If people have a miserable time during the war i'd make them turn there frown upside down. Then everyone would feel proud and fight!!!!!!

  14. I would feel very very scared and panicked. My great grandfather got drafted into the war when he was only 17 years old. The worst part was that it was his 18th b-day when he was drafted. He died on the 3rd day of the war.
My grandfather has his gun that he used in war. My grandfather's dad was drafted when his wife was 7 months pregnant. The next month my great grandmother was sent a telegaph saying that my great grandfather died in the war. When the night came to have my grandfather my grandmother had him but, died after the labor.

  15. I would be VERY afraid.Just thinking about being drafted gives me goosebumps.Seeing the posters on the side of the street, and reading the papers would be frightening. None of my family members have ever been in an American war,so I don't know.Reading about it in the book and hearing friends talk about their ancestors...I couldn't take it.

  22. I WOULD BE MAD BECAUSE SOMETIMES PEOPLE WOULD NOT WANT TO. LIKE IF SOMEONE WANTED TO RISK THEIR LIFE TO GO TO WAR THEN THAT IS FINE AND IF THEY DIDN'T WANT TO RISK THEIR LIFE THEN WHY SHOULD THEY GO. THE USA IF A FREE COUNTRY AND THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO VOTE TO GO NOT TO GET IT IN THE MAIL IF THEY DIDN'T WANT IT!!!!!!!!
